On June 22, 2018, the Registrar, Funeral Burial and Cremation Services Act, 2002 (FBCSA) issued a Notice of Proposal to Revoke and an Order to Immediately Suspend the crematorium operator licence of 1868653 Ontario Limited o/a Newcastle Funeral Home Ltd. (Licence Number TEMP00002). The licensee is prohibited from providing, selling or holding itself out as available to sell any cremation services, alternative processes or methods of disposition of human remains to the public including alkaline hydrolysis dispositions. The Registrar, FBCSA has deemed the immediate suspension to be in the public interest.
All operators licensed under the FBCSA are reminded that they have a positive obligation to ensure compliance with governing laws and regulations. As such, no operator is to engage with Newcastle Funeral Home Ltd. (Licence Number TEMP00002) or its representative(s) in relation to cremation services, alternative processes or methods of disposition of human remains, including alkaline hydrolysis. Similarly, no person or operator is to signify that the licensee is available to sell such services to the public while its licence is under suspension.
A Funeral Establishment (Class 1) operator licence held by this same licensee is not subject to the Proposal to Revoke and/or Order to Immediately Suspend Licensure.
