Notice: Call for Nominations for Discipline and Appeal Committees
The Bereavement Authority of Ontario (BAO) is accepting applications for two new committees.
In accordance with the provincial government’s Discipline and Appeal Committees Regulation, the BAO has established its Discipline and Appeal Committees to begin addressing non-compliant licensees in house, rather than escalating cases to the Licence Appeal Tribunal or creating conditions of licensure.
The BAO is currently seeking candidates to apply for positions on these two committees, comprised of bereavement sector and non-licensee representatives.
The BAO invites eligible candidates to apply for nomination to one or both committees.
Discipline Committee
The Discipline Committee is responsible for hearing and determining discipline cases concerning failure to comply with the Code of Ethics, Ontario Reg 216/18.
Available positions (two individuals from each category):
- Non-licensee Representative
- Cemetery Operator
- Crematorium Operator
- Funeral Establishment Operator – Class 1
- Funeral Director – Class 1

Appeal Committee
The Appeal Committee is responsible for hearing and determining licensee appeals of discipline proceedings.
Available positions (two individuals from each category):
- Non-licensee Representative
- Cemetery Operator
- Crematorium Operator
- Funeral Establishment Operator – Class 1
- Funeral Director – Class 1

Compensation
Members of the Discipline and Appeal Committees will receive a per diem rate in accordance with the BAO’s Remuneration Policy. Members are also eligible for reimbursement of travel and out-of-pocket expenses associated with attendance at meetings or special functions in accordance with the BAO Expense Policy.
Nomination process
A Discipline and Appeal Selection Committee, comprised of members of the BAO Board of Directors, will review applications from candidates wishing to serve on the committees.
The Discipline and Appeal Selection Committee will draw candidates for the Discipline Committee and the Appeal Committee from a cross-section of designated sectors, experience and qualifications in accordance with eligibility requirements.
The candidates who best meet the criteria outlined in the TOR of each committee will be recommended to the BAO Board of Directors for appointment.
