You must provide whatever information is available to ensure that cemetery staff can prepare and take precautions to ensure that their staff are kept safe, and any other relevant information.\u00a0 Common sense prevails. Try to have fewer.<\/strong>\u00a0Follow the rules \u2013 Registrar\u2019s Directives, laws, rules, personal protective equipment (PPE). You don\u2019t want this in your funeral home, family, or community. Thank for your work during this pandemic.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n            <\/div>\n<\/li><li\n    class=\"accordion-item\"\n    >\n    <h2>\n        <button\n            class=\"accordion-heading\"\n            aria-controls=\"6a24f96d64513\"\n            aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <span class=\"row align-items-center\">\n                <span class=\"col title-col\">\n                    <span class='h2'>Banning of visitors at cemeteries \u2013 can government mandate this?<\/span>\n                <\/span>\n                <span class=\"col-auto\">\n                    <span class=\"toggle-icons\">\n                        <span class='toggle-open fal fa-plus'><\/span>\n                        <span class='toggle-close fal fa-minus'><\/span>\n                    <\/span>\n                <\/span>\n            <\/span>\n        <\/button>\n    <\/h2>\n    <div\n        class='accordion-content mt-first-0 mb-last-0'\n        id=\"6a24f96d64513\"\n        aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                            <div class=\"subsection text-subsection\"><div class=\"mb-last-0\"><p>As the pandemic increases, the government can be expected to take additional measures to stop the spread of COVID-19. The cemetery is private property and so an operator can make appropriate restrictions. The Premier of Ontario\u2019s order has restricted gathering in cemeteries to 10 individuals. Cemeteries can ban visitors, if they choose. The Province is in a State of emergency. As a licensee, you are well within your rights to manage your own establishment in compliance with all applicable laws.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n            <\/div>\n<\/li><li\n    class=\"accordion-item\"\n    >\n    <h2>\n        <button\n            class=\"accordion-heading\"\n            aria-controls=\"6a24f96d64563\"\n            aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <span class=\"row align-items-center\">\n                <span class=\"col title-col\">\n                    <span class='h2'>Shrouding of a body \u2013 is it safe?<\/span>\n                <\/span>\n                <span class=\"col-auto\">\n                    <span class=\"toggle-icons\">\n                        <span class='toggle-open fal fa-plus'><\/span>\n                        <span class='toggle-close fal fa-minus'><\/span>\n                    <\/span>\n                <\/span>\n            <\/span>\n        <\/button>\n    <\/h2>\n    <div\n        class='accordion-content mt-first-0 mb-last-0'\n        id=\"6a24f96d64563\"\n        aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                            <div class=\"subsection text-subsection\"><div class=\"mb-last-0\"><p>It can be safe \u2013 but only if you are sure the deceased was not a COVID-19 victim. Respiratory droplets can be released from the deceased\u2019s body. The COVID-19 virus stays alive for three to seven days.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n            <\/div>\n<\/li><li\n    class=\"accordion-item\"\n    >\n    <h2>\n        <button\n            class=\"accordion-heading\"\n            aria-controls=\"6a24f96d645b8\"\n            aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <span class=\"row align-items-center\">\n                <span class=\"col title-col\">\n                    <span class='h2'>Can cemeteries expect funeral homes to supply PPE to them?<\/span>\n                <\/span>\n                <span class=\"col-auto\">\n                    <span class=\"toggle-icons\">\n                        <span class='toggle-open fal fa-plus'><\/span>\n                        <span class='toggle-close fal fa-minus'><\/span>\n                    <\/span>\n                <\/span>\n            <\/span>\n        <\/button>\n    <\/h2>\n    <div\n        class='accordion-content mt-first-0 mb-last-0'\n        id=\"6a24f96d645b8\"\n        aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                            <div class=\"subsection text-subsection\"><div class=\"mb-last-0\"><p>Negotiate if appropriate. The Chief Coroner (Ontario) is moving to inform families that they must identify where their deceased loved ones are to go for funerals. Families will have to choose a nearby funeral home immediately \u2013 this is a state of emergency.<\/p>\n<p>Death certificates are under the Vital Statistics Act. Currently death certificates are not issued by funeral homes. This is being looked at by government and the Chief Coroner.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n            <\/div>\n<\/li><li\n    class=\"accordion-item\"\n    >\n    <h2>\n        <button\n            class=\"accordion-heading\"\n            aria-controls=\"6a24f96d64609\"\n            aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <span class=\"row align-items-center\">\n                <span class=\"col title-col\">\n                    <span class='h2'>Can families touch the body of person who died from COVID-19.<\/span>\n                <\/span>\n                <span class=\"col-auto\">\n                    <span class=\"toggle-icons\">\n                        <span class='toggle-open fal fa-plus'><\/span>\n                        <span class='toggle-close fal fa-minus'><\/span>\n                    <\/span>\n                <\/span>\n            <\/span>\n        <\/button>\n    <\/h2>\n    <div\n        class='accordion-content mt-first-0 mb-last-0'\n        id=\"6a24f96d64609\"\n        aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                            <div class=\"subsection text-subsection\"><div class=\"mb-last-0\"><p>They should not. There is a danger to them in doing so. It is strongly recommended that families also maintain the two-metre rule when viewing their deceased family member. These are tough times for all.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n            <\/div>\n<\/li><li\n    class=\"accordion-item\"\n    >\n    <h2>\n        <button\n            class=\"accordion-heading\"\n            aria-controls=\"6a24f96d64658\"\n            aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <span class=\"row align-items-center\">\n                <span class=\"col title-col\">\n                    <span class='h2'>Can cemetery operators refuse entombment if they don\u2019t have PPE.<\/span>\n                <\/span>\n                <span class=\"col-auto\">\n                    <span class=\"toggle-icons\">\n                        <span class='toggle-open fal fa-plus'><\/span>\n                        <span class='toggle-close fal fa-minus'><\/span>\n                    <\/span>\n                <\/span>\n            <\/span>\n        <\/button>\n    <\/h2>\n    <div\n        class='accordion-content mt-first-0 mb-last-0'\n        id=\"6a24f96d64658\"\n        aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                            <div class=\"subsection text-subsection\"><div class=\"mb-last-0\"><p>A cemetery operator can refuse to allow access to any one if they have a safety concern for themselves, their staff or the public.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n            <\/div>\n<\/li><li\n    class=\"accordion-item\"\n    >\n    <h2>\n        <button\n            class=\"accordion-heading\"\n            aria-controls=\"6a24f96d646a8\"\n            aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <span class=\"row align-items-center\">\n                <span class=\"col title-col\">\n                    <span class='h2'>Can we charge for more supplies and resources?<\/span>\n                <\/span>\n                <span class=\"col-auto\">\n                    <span class=\"toggle-icons\">\n                        <span class='toggle-open fal fa-plus'><\/span>\n                        <span class='toggle-close fal fa-minus'><\/span>\n                    <\/span>\n                <\/span>\n            <\/span>\n        <\/button>\n    <\/h2>\n    <div\n        class='accordion-content mt-first-0 mb-last-0'\n        id=\"6a24f96d646a8\"\n        aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                            <div class=\"subsection text-subsection\"><div class=\"mb-last-0\"><p>You can cover your costs and must be able to justify the additional costs.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mailchi.mp\/0c8ccd7ccab8\/notice-to-the-profession-covid-19-fees-1223697?e=8009994c0c\">Read the BAO\u2019s April 30 Notice to the Profession<\/a><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n            <\/div>\n<\/li><li\n    class=\"accordion-item\"\n    >\n    <h2>\n        <button\n            class=\"accordion-heading\"\n            aria-controls=\"6a24f96d646f7\"\n            aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <span class=\"row align-items-center\">\n                <span class=\"col title-col\">\n                    <span class='h2'>Has the washing and dressing at a mosque etc., of COVID-1919 victims been addressed?<\/span>\n                <\/span>\n                <span class=\"col-auto\">\n                    <span class=\"toggle-icons\">\n                        <span class='toggle-open fal fa-plus'><\/span>\n                        <span class='toggle-close fal fa-minus'><\/span>\n                    <\/span>\n                <\/span>\n            <\/span>\n        <\/button>\n    <\/h2>\n    <div\n        class='accordion-content mt-first-0 mb-last-0'\n        id=\"6a24f96d646f7\"\n        aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                            <div class=\"subsection text-subsection\"><div class=\"mb-last-0\"><p>Yes. Only licensed individuals, or those under a physician\u2019s direction, have been recommended to do this. The BAO hasn\u2019t yet had to suspend family-led death care. But, no one (or very few) is interested in doing this now. The Muslim community, for example, has received the BAO\u2019s direction very well on this matter (as posted on the BAO\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/working.simplistics.ca\/bao\/covid-19-update-links\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">COVID-19 web section<\/a>).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n            <\/div>\n<\/li><li\n    class=\"accordion-item\"\n    >\n    <h2>\n        <button\n            class=\"accordion-heading\"\n            aria-controls=\"6a24f96d64745\"\n            aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <span class=\"row align-items-center\">\n                <span class=\"col title-col\">\n                    <span class='h2'>Regarding disinfecting of a casket prior to graveside service, would it not make more sense for the Registrar to issue a directive to Funeral Homes to ensure caskets or cremation containers are disinfected prior to transportation for final disposition?<\/span>\n                <\/span>\n                <span class=\"col-auto\">\n                    <span class=\"toggle-icons\">\n                        <span class='toggle-open fal fa-plus'><\/span>\n                        <span class='toggle-close fal fa-minus'><\/span>\n                    <\/span>\n                <\/span>\n            <\/span>\n        <\/button>\n    <\/h2>\n    <div\n        class='accordion-content mt-first-0 mb-last-0'\n        id=\"6a24f96d64745\"\n        aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                            <div class=\"subsection text-subsection\"><div class=\"mb-last-0\"><p>The Registrar expects that both funeral establishment operators and cemetery\/crematorium operators will use disinfectants on the casket prior to hand off from one to another. This is, and must be, routine practice.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n            <\/div>\n<\/li><li\n    class=\"accordion-item\"\n    >\n    <h2>\n        <button\n            class=\"accordion-heading\"\n            aria-controls=\"6a24f96d647a3\"\n            aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <span class=\"row align-items-center\">\n                <span class=\"col title-col\">\n                    <span class='h2'>Under normal circumstances we would take a family out to pick their lot. When a surge happens can we create a a section where burials would take place in sequence i.e.one after another? And do we charge the same price?<\/span>\n                <\/span>\n                <span class=\"col-auto\">\n                    <span class=\"toggle-icons\">\n                        <span class='toggle-open fal fa-plus'><\/span>\n                        <span class='toggle-close fal fa-minus'><\/span>\n                    <\/span>\n                <\/span>\n            <\/span>\n        <\/button>\n    <\/h2>\n    <div\n        class='accordion-content mt-first-0 mb-last-0'\n        id=\"6a24f96d647a3\"\n        aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                            <div class=\"subsection text-subsection\"><div class=\"mb-last-0\"><p>You may adapt your process for selling and issuing Interment Rights If, and only if, ordered to by the Premier of Ontario\u2019s Order or Registrar\u2019s order. The plan for this mass grave must be filed i.e. approved by the Registrar.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n            <\/div>\n<\/li><li\n    class=\"accordion-item\"\n    >\n    <h2>\n        <button\n            class=\"accordion-heading\"\n            aria-controls=\"6a24f96d647f7\"\n            aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <span class=\"row align-items-center\">\n                <span class=\"col title-col\">\n                    <span class='h2'>Is there still a need for a coroner\u2019s certificate for cremation or to transport the body out of the province?<\/span>\n                <\/span>\n                <span class=\"col-auto\">\n                    <span class=\"toggle-icons\">\n                        <span class='toggle-open fal fa-plus'><\/span>\n                        <span class='toggle-close fal fa-minus'><\/span>\n                    <\/span>\n                <\/span>\n            <\/span>\n        <\/button>\n    <\/h2>\n    <div\n        class='accordion-content mt-first-0 mb-last-0'\n        id=\"6a24f96d647f7\"\n        aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                            <div class=\"subsection text-subsection\"><div class=\"mb-last-0\"><p>Yes, there is still a need for all required and proper documentation. The Chief Coroner of Ontario is working on an electronic death certificate to expedite this process. Coroner\u2019s Cremation Certificates are already issued electronically.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n            <\/div>\n<\/li><li\n    class=\"accordion-item\"\n    >\n    <h2>\n        <button\n            class=\"accordion-heading\"\n            aria-controls=\"6a24f96d64846\"\n            aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <span class=\"row align-items-center\">\n                <span class=\"col title-col\">\n                    <span class='h2'>As a cemetery operator, is it unreasonable for my cemetery to expect or demand that the funeral establishment provide pall bearers and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to set casket on a lowering device?<\/span>\n                <\/span>\n                <span class=\"col-auto\">\n                    <span class=\"toggle-icons\">\n                        <span class='toggle-open fal fa-plus'><\/span>\n                        <span class='toggle-close fal fa-minus'><\/span>\n                    <\/span>\n                <\/span>\n            <\/span>\n        <\/button>\n    <\/h2>\n    <div\n        class='accordion-content mt-first-0 mb-last-0'\n        id=\"6a24f96d64846\"\n        aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                            <div class=\"subsection text-subsection\"><div class=\"mb-last-0\"><p>Arrangements for burials and appropriate PPE must be negotiated at the time of scheduling the burials.\u00a0Funeral establishment operators deliver the casket to the grave and have little or no contact with the cemetery staff.\u00a0Once the funeral establishment staff and family leave then only will the cemetery staff approach and lower the casket.\u00a0The casket can be disinfected before any contact.
