{"id":11598,"date":"2026-05-13T10:56:04","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T14:56:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thebao.ca\/?p=11598"},"modified":"2026-05-13T10:56:05","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T14:56:05","slug":"registrar-orders-cemetery-board-in-toronto-to-cease-selling-and-offering-to-sell-licensed-supplies-and-or-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thebao.ca\/stage\/registrar-orders-cemetery-board-in-toronto-to-cease-selling-and-offering-to-sell-licensed-supplies-and-or-services\/","title":{"rendered":"Registrar orders cemetery board in Toronto to cease selling and offering to sell licensed supplies and\/or services"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On May 11, 2026, the Registrar under the Funeral, Burial and Cremation Services Act, 2002 (FBCSA), issued an Order to the Anshei Stashover-Slipi Congregation cemetery operator licensee (the Board), in Toronto, to cease and desist selling and offering to sell licensed supplies and\/or services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under the authority of subsection 109 (7) of Ontario Regulation 30\/11, the Registrar has ordered the Board to immediately cease the following activities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Offering to sell licensed supplies and\/or services as described in the Act (FBCSA) and the regulations thereunder; and,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Selling licensed supplies and\/or services as described in the Act (FBCSA).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Order includes selling any prepaid services and supplies. As long as the Cease-and-Desist Order is in effect, should any bereavement consumers require at-need services the Board may not provide licensed at-need supplies and services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, given the continuing needs of consumers, any bereavement consumers who purchased prepaid services and\/or have existing interment rights prior to this Cease-and-Desist Order coming into effect may be provided with the services that were contracted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This Order remains in effect until the Board has corrected the non-compliance and has reported back to the Registrar confirming its compliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>About the BAO<\/strong> <br>The Bereavement Authority of Ontario (BAO) is a government delegated authority and not-for-profit corporation administering provisions of the\u202fFuneral, Burial and Cremation Services Act, 2002\u202f(FBCSA).\u202fAccountable to the Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement and the government, the BAO is responsible for the protection of the public interest.
