{"id":576,"date":"2020-07-28T13:35:51","date_gmt":"2020-07-28T17:35:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/working.simplistics.ca\/bao\/?p=576"},"modified":"2020-09-16T15:12:00","modified_gmt":"2020-09-16T19:12:00","slug":"add-link-to-bao-consumer-guide-and-acknowledgement-to-funeral-and-transfer-service-contracts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thebao.ca\/stage\/add-link-to-bao-consumer-guide-and-acknowledgement-to-funeral-and-transfer-service-contracts\/","title":{"rendered":"Add link to BAO consumer guide and acknowledgement to funeral and transfer service contracts"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">July 28, 2020<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Bereavement Authority of Ontario (BAO) is making it easier for consumers and funeral homes to receive and distribute the authority\u2019s free\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/thebao.ca\/for-consumers\/consumer-information-guide\/\">Consumer Information Guide (<strong>CIG<\/strong>) \u2013 A Guide to Death Care in Ontario<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this Registrar\u2019s Directive,<strong>&nbsp;effective Sept. 22, 2020<\/strong>, the BAO is making it standard practice in funeral service contracts to include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thebao.ca\/for-consumers\/consumer-information-guide\/\">link\u00a0<\/a>to the digital CIG; and<\/li><li>The purchaser\u2019s acknowledgement of receiving the CIG.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This change is part of the BAO\u2019s\u00a0<strong>new sample funeral and transfer service contracts<\/strong>, which can be downloaded\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thebao.ca\/for-professionals\/funeral-transfer-service-professionals\/forms\/\">here<\/a>. The main changes to the sample contracts are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>New CIG clause<\/strong> \u2013 as mentioned, consumers can choose electronic or printed<\/li><li><strong>New Guarantee clause<\/strong> \u2013 to reflect the fact that disbursements (third-party cash advances) need not be guaranteed as do licensed services and supplies<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sample contracts are for: At-need Funeral Services; At-need Transfer Services; Trust-funded Prepaid Funeral Services; and, Trust-funded Prepaid Transfer Services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For licensees who have a stock of pre-printed contracts to use up, before printing new ones,\u00a0<strong>the BAO has written this contract\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thebao.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/CIG_FuneralContractAddendum2020_BAO.pdf\"><strong>addendum<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u00a0for your convenience<\/strong>. Please use it.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The BAO will next start updating its sample contracts for cemeteries, crematoriums and alternative disposition (hydrolysis).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Ministry of Government and Consumer Services has made online availability of the BAO\u2019s Consumer Information Guide possible through an amendment to regulations allowing licensees to provide the digital option.
