C&#8217;est une bonne occasion de r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir \u00e0 la raison pour laquelle la profession fun\u00e9raire est appel\u00e9e &#8220;une profession&#8221; et les personnes qui y travaillent &#8220;des professionnels&#8221;. Les professionnels du secteur fun\u00e9raire ont un ensemble unique de valeurs, de comportements et de relations qui sous-tendent la confiance des familles qu&#8217;ils servent et des communaut\u00e9s dont ils font partie.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La plupart d&#8217;entre vous savent que je n&#8217;appartiens pas \u00e0 votre profession, mais j&#8217;ai toujours admir\u00e9 les professionnels du secteur fun\u00e9raire en raison de ces valeurs et parce que vous \u00eates charg\u00e9s d&#8217;une t\u00e2che profond\u00e9ment sp\u00e9ciale : celle de soulager l&#8217;anxi\u00e9t\u00e9, d&#8217;apporter du r\u00e9confort aux familles en deuil et, plus important encore, de pr\u00e9server la dignit\u00e9 et la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 des personnes qui vous sont confi\u00e9es. Vous favorisez le calme et le r\u00e9confort. Plus que jamais, il est temps de montrer que le titre de professionnel est m\u00e9rit\u00e9. Il est temps de vous appuyer sur votre formation et votre exp\u00e9rience. Vous avez tout ce qu&#8217;il faut.  <\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ce qui suit r\u00e9pond \u00e0 certaines des questions que nous avons re\u00e7ues r\u00e9cemment \u00e0 l&#8217;Office du deuil de l&#8217;Ontario (BAO). Il est important de suivre les messages des autorit\u00e9s sanitaires car la situation peut changer rapidement.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"gutenberg-block accordion-group\">\n        <ul class=\"accordion-group-list\" aria-label='Accordion Group Control Buttons'>\n        <li\n    class=\"accordion-item\"\n    >\n    <h2>\n        <button\n            class=\"accordion-heading\"\n            aria-controls=\"6a24da2f90234\"\n            aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <span class=\"row align-items-center\">\n                <span class=\"col title-col\">\n                    <span class='h2'>The health authorities are recommending staying home and avoiding large gatherings, can we still have funerals and visitations?<\/span>\n                <\/span>\n                <span class=\"col-auto\">\n                    <span class=\"toggle-icons\">\n                        <span class='toggle-open fal fa-plus'><\/span>\n                        <span class='toggle-close fal fa-minus'><\/span>\n                    <\/span>\n                <\/span>\n            <\/span>\n        <\/button>\n    <\/h2>\n    <div\n        class='accordion-content mt-first-0 mb-last-0'\n        id=\"6a24da2f90234\"\n        aria-hidden=\"true\">\n        <p>This morning the Province of Ontario declared a state of emergency and announced funding for increased healthcare services. Premier Doug Ford also announced that all gatherings are now restricted to 50 people, the closing of churches and other faith settings, plus closing all recreational programs, libraries, private schools, daycares, bars and restaurants, except for takeout or delivery. These restrictions, aimed at slowing the spread of the virus, are to be in place until March 31. This could change as well, of course.<\/p>\n<p>I recommend that you discuss concerns and options with the families you serve. You may find that consumers will make the choice for you and opt for lower risk alternatives, such as direct cremation and celebration, deferring the funeral, staggering or splitting the visitation, video conferencing. Remember, guests attending your funeral home should practice:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Social distancing \u2013 put a distance between others<\/li>\n<li>Hand hygiene: Keep soap dispensers filled in all washrooms. Have hand sanitizer readily available at all entrance points.<\/li>\n<li>Cough\/sneeze etiquette: cover coughs and sneeze into your elbow. Have extra tissues readily available<\/li>\n<li>Post reminders of how to prevent being infected: clean hands often, put a distance between others, stay home if sick, cover coughs and sneezes<\/li>\n<li>Clean and disinfect surfaces frequently and meticulously: tabletops, mobile phones, keyboards, landlines, nametags, commonly touched surfaces such as light switches, countertops, chair arms, railings, doorknobs, and handles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n    <\/div>\n<\/li><li\n    class=\"accordion-item\"\n    >\n    <h2>\n        <button\n            class=\"accordion-heading\"\n            aria-controls=\"6a24da2f9027e\"\n            aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <span class=\"row align-items-center\">\n                <span class=\"col title-col\">\n                    <span class='h2'>Am I or my staff at increased risk working in a funeral establishment?<\/span>\n                <\/span>\n                <span class=\"col-auto\">\n                    <span class=\"toggle-icons\">\n                        <span class='toggle-open fal fa-plus'><\/span>\n                        <span class='toggle-close fal fa-minus'><\/span>\n                    <\/span>\n                <\/span>\n            <\/span>\n        <\/button>\n    <\/h2>\n    <div\n        class='accordion-content mt-first-0 mb-last-0'\n        id=\"6a24da2f9027e\"\n        aria-hidden=\"true\">\n        <p>The BAO monitors information from various health sources. There is no known evidence of postmortem spread of the virus. There is no known risk associated with being in the same room with the body of someone who has died of COVID-19. That said, it is important to take precautions.<\/p>\n    <\/div>\n<\/li><li\n    class=\"accordion-item\"\n    >\n    <h2>\n        <button\n            class=\"accordion-heading\"\n            aria-controls=\"6a24da2f902b8\"\n            aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <span class=\"row align-items-center\">\n                <span class=\"col title-col\">\n                    <span class='h2'>Arrangement Meetings<\/span>\n                <\/span>\n                <span class=\"col-auto\">\n                    <span class=\"toggle-icons\">\n                        <span class='toggle-open fal fa-plus'><\/span>\n                        <span class='toggle-close fal fa-minus'><\/span>\n                    <\/span>\n                <\/span>\n            <\/span>\n        <\/button>\n    <\/h2>\n    <div\n        class='accordion-content mt-first-0 mb-last-0'\n        id=\"6a24da2f902b8\"\n        aria-hidden=\"true\">\n        <p>Perhaps the biggest risk of infection occurs in the arrangements office, due to the close proximity of people.\u00a0 Use a spacious area to meet with the family; have guests keep a spare chair between them; use phone, email or video as alternatives to a physical meeting, and e-signature applications, such as DocuSign, to sign paperwork.<\/p>\n    <\/div>\n<\/li><li\n    class=\"accordion-item\"\n    >\n    <h2>\n        <button\n            class=\"accordion-heading\"\n            aria-controls=\"6a24da2f902f2\"\n            aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <span class=\"row align-items-center\">\n                <span class=\"col title-col\">\n                    <span class='h2'>Preparation<\/span>\n                <\/span>\n                <span class=\"col-auto\">\n                    <span class=\"toggle-icons\">\n                        <span class='toggle-open fal fa-plus'><\/span>\n                        <span class='toggle-close fal fa-minus'><\/span>\n                    <\/span>\n                <\/span>\n            <\/span>\n        <\/button>\n    <\/h2>\n    <div\n        class='accordion-content mt-first-0 mb-last-0'\n        id=\"6a24da2f902f2\"\n        aria-hidden=\"true\">\n        <p>There is no reason not to prepare a COVID-19 decedent as long as you follow your routine precautions. COVID-19 is spread by droplet and contact. It is not principally an airborne virus. Therefore, ensuring routine droplet barrier precautions, environmental hygiene, and overall sound infection prevention is the best way to prevent infection.<\/p>\n<p>Remember, there are many infectious things that can stay alive on a surface and hurt you (such as hepatitis.) You should always take precautions as if every person is a carrier of something and be diligent about wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).\u00a0 You should be wearing N95 masks when embalming, otherwise that type of mask isn\u2019t required.<\/p>\n    <\/div>\n<\/li><li\n    class=\"accordion-item\"\n    >\n    <h2>\n        <button\n            class=\"accordion-heading\"\n            aria-controls=\"6a24da2f90326\"\n            aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <span class=\"row align-items-center\">\n                <span class=\"col title-col\">\n                    <span class='h2'>Do I have to self-isolate if I prepare a body that has COVID-19?<\/span>\n                <\/span>\n                <span class=\"col-auto\">\n                    <span class=\"toggle-icons\">\n                        <span class='toggle-open fal fa-plus'><\/span>\n                        <span class='toggle-close fal fa-minus'><\/span>\n                    <\/span>\n                <\/span>\n            <\/span>\n        <\/button>\n    <\/h2>\n    <div\n        class='accordion-content mt-first-0 mb-last-0'\n        id=\"6a24da2f90326\"\n        aria-hidden=\"true\">\n        <p>Similar to a healthcare worker, there should be no reason to self-isolate if you have followed the precautions that you\u2019ve been trained to do.<\/p>\n    <\/div>\n<\/li><li\n    class=\"accordion-item\"\n    >\n    <h2>\n        <button\n            class=\"accordion-heading\"\n            aria-controls=\"6a24da2f90357\"\n            aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <span class=\"row align-items-center\">\n                <span class=\"col title-col\">\n                    <span class='h2'>What if the family wants to delay a funeral, what should I do about storing the deceased?<\/span>\n                <\/span>\n                <span class=\"col-auto\">\n                    <span class=\"toggle-icons\">\n                        <span class='toggle-open fal fa-plus'><\/span>\n                        <span class='toggle-close fal fa-minus'><\/span>\n                    <\/span>\n                <\/span>\n            <\/span>\n        <\/button>\n    <\/h2>\n    <div\n        class='accordion-content mt-first-0 mb-last-0'\n        id=\"6a24da2f90357\"\n        aria-hidden=\"true\">\n        <p>Class 1 Funeral Directors have been trained to take extra measures in embalming that should be taken if the deceased needs to be stored and refrigeration isn\u2019t available.<\/p>\n    <\/div>\n<\/li><li\n    class=\"accordion-item\"\n    >\n    <h2>\n        <button\n            class=\"accordion-heading\"\n            aria-controls=\"6a24da2f9038d\"\n            aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <span class=\"row align-items-center\">\n                <span class=\"col title-col\">\n                    <span class='h2'>Are there any dispositions that aren\u2019t available?<\/span>\n                <\/span>\n                <span class=\"col-auto\">\n                    <span class=\"toggle-icons\">\n                        <span class='toggle-open fal fa-plus'><\/span>\n                        <span class='toggle-close fal fa-minus'><\/span>\n                    <\/span>\n                <\/span>\n            <\/span>\n        <\/button>\n    <\/h2>\n    <div\n        class='accordion-content mt-first-0 mb-last-0'\n        id=\"6a24da2f9038d\"\n        aria-hidden=\"true\">\n        <p>Bodies can be interred in a cemetery or mausoleum, cremated or hydrolyzed.
