Notice to the Consumer: BAO assisting closure of Brownlee Funeral Homes Inc.
The Bereavement Authority of Ontario (BAO) has stepped in to assist the estate of David MacDougall, who was the owner/operator of Brownlee Funeral Homes Inc. until his death in June.
The BAO is stewarding the closure of the establishments, including contacting all those who have prepaid services with Brownlee Funeral Homes and the families who had cremated remains of their loved ones with the establishments.
Mr. MacDougall was the sole licensee and manager of Brownlee Funeral Homes Inc., which included:
- MacDougall Chapel & Reception Centre, 14815 County Road 2, Ingleside,
Ontario K0C 1M0; and - Brownlee Funeral Homes Inc. (Finch Chapel), 18 Front Street, Finch, Ontario K0C 1K0.
His estate trustee has opted to voluntarily terminate both establishment licences, which effectively closes the businesses.
Contact the BAO if:
- You or someone you know has prepaid for funeral services and supplies with these funeral establishments;
- These funeral establishments were storing cremated remains on your behalf.
In coming weeks, the BAO will be actively reaching out to families who have prepaid.
For more information, please email BAO inspector Selena.Janssens@thebao.ca or call her at 647-953-9598.
The BAO sends its condolences to Mr. MacDougall’s family and friends.
