Notice to the Profession: Toronto Public Health Letter Regarding Body Shipments

This message is from Toronto Public Health to all funeral establishments and transfer services in the Toronto area. While the change in service applies only to Toronto Public Health, it is possible that other local public health units may follow suit.

Re: Toronto Public Health Letter Regarding Body Shipments

This letter serves to inform you that as of January 1, 2023, Toronto Public Health will no longer be providing routine letters to funeral homes and burial establishments regarding body shipments.

Historically, funeral homes and burial establishments were able to send applications and a fee to Toronto Public Health requesting a letter acknowledging that the deceased person did not die of a communicable disease. Toronto Public Health will no longer be providing this service.
