Infectious Disease Planning

Routine Practices in the Bereavement Care Setting

Comprised of professional representatives from the funeral, cemetery, and crematorium sectors, and public members from supporting organizations, the Infectious Disease Planning Committee was introduced in 2014 to identify protocols and best practices for the bereavement sector.

Focusing efforts initially on Ebola, in response to current global realities, the committee connected with representatives from the Emergency Management Branch, a division within, the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, to ensure bereavement sector approaches supported health care directives and best practices when dealing with infectious disease cases.

To support the bereavement sector an Ebola Flowchart has been developed as a point of reference when dealing with Ebola infected cases.

In September 2015, the guide for Routine Practices in the Bereavement Care Setting was released.
