We are looking for talented people to join the Bereavement Authority of Ontario (BAO), the province’s sole regulator of professionals and businesses in the death care sector.
The BAO is here for people at a vulnerable time in their lives as they make death care arrangements and grieve the loss of loved ones.
We need you
We are looking for individuals with strong consumer-focused perspectives to become members of our BAO Board of Directors, board committees, and advisory committees.
Our board and committees are made up of a diverse group of bereavement sector professionals and consumer representatives.
We’re recruiting people who possess valuable skills, knowledge and perspectives that are taken into consideration when the regulator is making decisions, reviewing initiatives, or implementing policies that could assist grieving families.
BAO Board of Directors, committees
We currently have an opportunity available on our BAO Board of Directors.
These committees also have opportunities:
- Appeal Committee;
- Compensation Fund Committee;
- Cemetery, Crematorium and Municipal Advisory Committee;
- Faith-based Advisory Committee;
- Funeral and Transfer Services Advisory Committee.
Board directors, committee members and advisory committee members are appointed for three-year terms. Advisory committee members share their views in semi-annual meetings with the CEO/Registrar of the BAO.

About us
The Bereavement Authority of Ontario (BAO) is a government delegated authority and not-for-profit corporation administering provisions of the Funeral, Burial and Cremation Services Act, 2002 (FBCSA). Accountable to the Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement and the government, the BAO is responsible for the protection of the public interest. The BAO regulates, ensures compliance with the law, provides resources and services to licensed:
- Funeral establishment operators, directors and preplanners;
- Cemetery, crematorium and alternative disposition operators;
- Transfer service operators; and
- Bereavement sector sales representatives across Ontario.
The BAO is wholly funded by licensee fees (not tax dollars).
