Would you like to help people on their most difficult days?
We are looking for people like you to draw on your experiences and perspectives to help us improve how we serve the public.
As a not-for-profit corporation protecting Ontario consumers, we want to hear from you on how we can enhance regulation and better inform people during times of grief.
The Bereavement Authority of Ontario (BAO) invites you to apply to join our new Consumer Advisory Council and tell us what you need and want from us in our oversight of licensed professionals and businesses in the death services sector.
Who are we and why would you want to apply?
The BAO is the government-delegated regulator of operators of funeral homes, cemeteries, crematoriums, alkaline hydrolysis facilities, and licensed professionals.
We make sure consumers are treated fairly in accordance with the law. We do that through licensing, guidance, and enforcement actions in the public interest.
Part of what we do is make sure information about people’s rights and options in the death services sector is:
- Valuable to you (the consumer);
- Easy to find; and
- Easy to understand.
That information matters to a lot to people planning and/or prepaying, or arranging a funeral and other services at time of need.
The Consumer Advisory Council’s work is at the heart of all we do at the BAO.
In short, you can make our work more valuable to Ontarians. The council will identify consumer needs, share perspectives on emerging issues, and provide its ideas on BAO consumer protection initiatives and information.
We want to hear all voices
Your lived experience is what matters most in advising us on what needs to be added, expanded, or changed in our work.
As a member of the Consumer Advisory Council your voice will be heard at the highest levels of our organization including to our CEO & Registrar and our BAO Board of Directors.
The application deadline is November 20, 2026.
Join us.
